Beowulf
I'm unabashed about my love for *tasteful gore and glory. 300 was a fantastic movie, I'm starting to play Hellgate, and LH and I watched Beowulf last weekend. What I detest, of course, is *distasteful gore -- like horror flicks (don't go into the basement!).
Don't know why this movie in particular. Maybe because I gave the Polar Express a miss (similar animation style). Maybe Neil Gaimon and his take on this epic poem. Maybe it was because I stumbled across so many reviews.
The strangest thing is that the reviews were all BAD, or at least mediocre, and I still wanted to go. I guess it helped lower expectations for me and I fairly enjoyed it. I can't tell whether to say "see it" or "forget it", but maybe this review would help. Spoilers are involved, but hey, it is a story that has been told before so do you really need to hide from who dies when?
I'm just amused at the moment about how the Singapore audience, like the European audience went "huh" at the old-English parts (as spoken by Grendel). Totally incomprehensible! I guess what helped was LH translating with the Chinese subtitles.
